After making her Bollywood debut with 1920, vivacious beauty Adah Sharma stepped into Telugu films with Puri Jagannadh’s Heart Attack. Adah went on to impress Telugu film lovers with her cameos in films like S/O Satyamurthy and Subramanyam For Sale.

Adah’s latest film, the Adi-starrer Garam, is gearing up for a grand release on February 12. 123Telugu.com had a brief chitchat with the actress and here’s what she had to say:

Q) The film is titled Garam, will you give a ‘Garam’ treat to the audience?

(Laughs). The word ‘Garam’ can be used in several contexts. We have shot this film in ‘Garam’ conditions. Yes, I will appear in a ‘Garam’ avatar in the film, but audience will have to watch the film to estimate the Garam factor.

Q) How did you bag Garam?

Director Madan was impressed by the way I emoted through my eyes in Heart Attack. Since my character in Garam is of a Muslim girl who is mostly seen in burqas, it demands expressing of emotions through the eyes. So Madan felt that I would be suitable for the role and offered me Garam.

Q) You are playing a Muslim girl for the first time. Elaborate the kind of homework you did? We also heard that you’re mostly seen in a burqa.

You will have to watch the film to find out for how long I would appear in a burqa. But I can assure that I won’t disappoint the audiences in my burqa-clad avatar. Coming to the homework, I took inspiration from Manisha Koirala’s character in Mani Ratnam’s Bombay. I tried to express the emotions just as Manisha did in Bombay.

Q) You seem to have danced quite hard in Garam?

I am a professional Kathak dancer, but I never got an opportunity to showcase my dancing abilities. In Garam, I got to dance in four songs. Especially, I loved my mass steps in the ‘Chilaka Papa’ song. I hope my dancing will be appreciated by everyone.

Q) How was it working with Aadi?

Aadi is a sincere and hardworking hero. I have worked quite hard for the film, but Aadi toiled even harder.

Q) What can we expect from Garam? Going by the trailer, can we expect a love story?

Like I said, the word ‘Garam’ can be used in several ways. We can’t term the film an out and out love story. The film has all the required ingredients like love, comedy, action and family emotions. We can call it a perfect youthful entertainer.

Q) This is Saikumar’s debut film as a producer. How are the production values?

We shot most of the film in Hyderabad to make it look natural. But the film is quite grand in terms of production values and visuals. Saikumar treated me like his family member.

Q) Didn’t you feel it was risky to act in cameos in SOS and SFS, being a rising star?

I never go by the length of my characters. If I like a character and believe that it will satisfy me as an actress, I sign that role. Also, I always wanted to work with Bunny and Trivikram. I don’t want to be typecast. That’s another reason why I am trying out different cameos.

Q) What are you dream roles?

I want to try out all kinds of characters. I am a trained Kathak dancer. I am longing to do a period film which has a Kathak backdrop.

Q) Tell us about your upcoming projects?

My next film, Kshanam, will release on March 4. I have a few offers from Bollywood. They are still in discussions stage. I will reveal the details very soon.
