Gopichand Malineni is one director who makes decent films. He is now looking for that one film which will give him super success and is now ready with Winner. The Dharam Tej starrer is ready for release and on this occasion, we caught with Gop for a detailed interview, let’s see what he has to say.

What is Winner all about?

Winner is the story of a young man who faces huge problems, falls down and once again rises to the top as a winner. Sai Dharam plays the character who dislikes horse riding and his father big time. The story of the film is how he gets tangled between these horses and makes peace with his father.

How risky was it shooting with the horses?

Yes! we had a tough time shooting for the film. The horse that was used for Teju has 20 years of experience and was well trained. Teju had to work very hard to shoot with the horse and we had a nervous time shooting for those sequences which will be the highlight of the film.

About comedy quotient in the film?

Winner has some hilarious comedy. Some seasoned artists like Ali, Prudhvi and Vennela Kishore are doing crucial roles in the film and I am sure that audience will have a blast in the auditorium.

Working with Rakul Preet?

This is my second film with Rakul and she plays an athlete in the film. As she is a fitness freak, she has given a natural performance and is quite dedicated in her approach.

Why do you take such a long gap between your films?

I do not know how directors take up another film when their current film is on floors. For me, my current film is everything and I get deeply involved in every aspect of the film till the release. As so much money is at stake I don’t take risks and make one films at a time and this takes a long gap.

Whose idea was it to rope in Anasuya and Suma for the special song?

When we decided that there should be a special song, everyone was quite clear that Anasuya should do it. But sadly, she rejected the offer and only accepted to do it only after she heard the song. Making Suma sing was completely Thaman’s idea and we all okayed it right away.

You have never worked with stars. Why is that so?

With Winner’s success, I feel that I will get into that bracket. The success of the film will bring me a star hero project automatically.
