Sudhir Babu, son-in-law of Superstar Krishna, is making his debut as a lead actor in Tatineni Satya’s SMS (Siva Manasulo Sruthi). Couple of years ago, he played a cameo in Gautham Menon’s Ye Maya Chesave and now he’s donning the lead role. SMS is set to release in February and the actor met the media to talk more about his journey into films and his debut film.

How did you enter into film industry? We hear that you had been always been interested in films.

I wanted to become an actor since my childhood. I was born and brought up in Vijayawada and films were the only means of entertainment there. Before the acting bug bit me, I even distributed some films in few areas, but I didn’t consider acting seriously back then. One day, I expressed my desire to act in films to Krishna and he gave me a lot of advice about how to go
about in the industry.

So, what was Krishna’s advice?

He said, “In this industry, you’ll face a lot more failures than successes and if you are 100% sure that you can face the failures and still continue with dedication and sincerity then go ahead, otherwise give up yours dreams.” Those words stuck in my head and in a way, they are the driving force behind my commitment towards acting.

Tell us about your preparation. In the audio launch, Mahesh couldn’t stop raving about your dedication and even said that he was shocked to see your demo reel.

I got trained under Sekhar Master for 4 months and then I spent 3 days a week practising fights and another three days practising dance. I used to shoot everything I was doing on camera and later go through them to see if I had any scope for improvement. Initially, Mahesh tried to drive sense into my head and advised me to stay away from acting as it is not an easy task. One day, Namrata saw my demo reel and she passed it on to Mahesh. He was shocked to see my stunts and couldn’t believe that I had learn all that in such a short span of time. From then onwards, he gave me lot of support and encouraged me to pursue my passion.

How did SMS happen? What’s the film about?

Tatineni Satya and I have been friends for the past nine years. The film’s basic thread and plot is taken from a Tamil film titled SMS (Siva Manasale Sakthi); however, Satya made several changes to suit the nativity. We even showed the script to Srinu Vaitla during Dookudu’s shooting and in turn, he suggested few more changes. SMS is a sweet revenge love story. I play the role of Shiva, a courier boy. Regina plays the role of Shruthi. We constantly quarrel with each other but we are in love wuth each other. The film is a slice of life drama, with characters and situations that you find in every day’s life. It is a new age love story.

And future plans?

The film is going to release in the second week of February. I have read scripts which are under consideration. I’ll reveal more about future plans after the release of SMS.
