Aranya is all set for a release soon. On this occasion, we spoke with the film’s hero, Rana, for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

Your reaction after hearing the story?

I didn’t know much about forests in the first place. When Prabhu sir narrated the film, I was taken aback by the facts that he revealed to me about the elephants and the real story about the character I play. The wall being built, elephants being troubled, and how my character helps them get freedom attracted me.

How did you prepare for this role?

I went to Thailand 15 days before the shoot and started living with the elephants. Every day, it was a new learning experience working with the elephants. I was very scared but after four to five days, I managed to pull things off with the help of trainers. Aranya is one of the noblest characters I played.

Working with Prabhu Solomon?

Prabhu sir was quite keen about the way the film was supposed to be made. He worked on the film for over three years and is a man who believes in a lot of detail. He has so much clarity on how the forest-based scenes will be shot. I learned a lot from him.

You always do different films. What keeps you going?

It is purely because of the scripts I get. The makers who approach me come up with different scripts. The weird setups and crazy roles excite me a lot. I love doing different films and when films like Aranya come in, I grab them with both hands.

What was the toughest part of shooting for this film?

Apart from shooting with the elephants, shooting the film in three languages was the toughest part. Also, Prabhu sir wanted me to behave in a special manner which was quite tough.

Working experience with Pawan Kalyan in AK remake?

I am having a ball on the sets of Ak remake and Pawan garu is one of the coolest guys around. He is quite original and has his own style. Every single day, I get to learn something or the other. Pawan garu is quite encouraging.
