Interview : Venkatesh – Narappa is my most difficult role to date
Published on Jul 17, 2021 7:34 pm IST

Narappa is ready for a big OTT release this 20th July. On this occasion, we caught up with Victory Venkatesh for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

What is your reaction to Narappa’s OTT release?

I am the kind of person who is not bound by time. I feel that one should not question time. Things have changed drastically and I have taken what’s coming in. I did my job as an actor and it is up to the producers to take a call on the release as there is a lot of money involved.

What aspect attracted you to remake Asuran?

The moment I saw Asuran, it blew me away. I had a gut feeling that this film would work in Telugu and the character challenged me a lot. So, I decided to remake it. Over the years, I have done so many remakes and everyone thinks it is easy. But re-creating the world of Asuran was so tough.

How did you prepare for the role of Narappa?

Narappa is the most challenging character I have ever played. Action, emotions, I worked so hard and everything you see on screen is quite real. The character tested me big time. Generally, I am not a method actor but for this film, I worked hard. For the whole shoot, I stayed in the same dress even in my hotel room just to be in my character. I was quite exhausted after every emotional shot in the film.

Whose choice was it to rope in Srikanth Addala.?

It was our choice only. He has worked with me earlier and we felt he would do a solid job. He has done a very good job and will get solid reception for his work. Srikanth has made a lot of changes to the original and has adapted it perfectly.

Comparisons with Dhanush?

There will be comparisons with the original but I feel we will not let down anyone. Dhanush is a solid actor and can do any kind of a role. I loved his performance but I also feel that once the Telugu audience sees me they will forget him.

You have been doing back-to-back films, unlike any big hero. How do you feel?

In that way, I am quite lucky to do multiple films. There were also days when I had no work and was idle. So, to do multiple films in a short time and that too during this pandemic feels very good. I am doing different roles and the varied emotions are making me happy.

Tell us about Drishyam 2?

It is one more film that has challenged me. Mohan Lal is a terrific actor and to reprise his role was quite difficult. I took it as a challenge and completed the film and everyone will surely like it.

Your reaction regarding the whole OTT dominance?

Times have changed and the whole OTT game is new for us as well. As some big players are involved things will change in the days to come. We have to get accustomed to it and once this Covid scare goes back, theatres will go in full flow.

You are a spiritual person. What’s your take on this whole Covid situation?

With Covid, we have learned that one should not take things easy. We should be prepared for everything and Corona has taught us a big lesson. One should be positive in life and take one day at a time. I have learned to respect what God has given me.
