Sivakarthikeyanโs new movie Maaveeran has been released in Telugu as Mahaveerudu today. The film generated a decent buzz before its release. Check out our review to see if it lived up to the hype.
Story:
Satya (Sivakarthikeyan), a cartoonist in a newspaper, lives in a slum with his family. The government provides apartments for everyone in the slum, but they are of poor quality. Due to an issue, Satya, who lacks courage, loses his job and attempts suicide but is saved. From that moment, he starts hearing a voice inside him that predicts the future. Meanwhile, he finds himself in conflict with Minister Jayasurya (Mysskin). The movie reveals what happens next, including whether Satya discovers the source of the inner voice and how he handles the issue with the minister.
Plus Points:
Director Madonne Ashwin takes a simple story and adds intrigue by introducing an illusionary element to the protagonist.
Sivakarthikeyan, known for embracing diverse roles, delivers an impressive performance as a timid individual in Mahaveerudu. His ability to bring laughter to serious situations through his actions is commendable.
Yogi Babu’s impeccable comedic timing and hilarious scenes with Sivakarthikeyan contribute to the movie’s entertainment value.
Mysskin also shines in a well-executed role, along with the rest of the cast, including Sarita, who bring their respective characters to life.
Minus Points:
While the story starts off strongly with an impressive narration, the second half tends to drag, losing its captivation. Despite incorporating comedy and action, the narrative fails to sustain viewers’ interest.
The director could have considered a shorter runtime and remove unnecessary scenes, ultimately making Mahaveerudu a more engaging film.
Aditi Shankar’s role is limited, with minimal appearances in the second half. Sunil’s character could have been developed better. The songs are forgettable, and the musical score is average.
Technical aspects:
On the technical side, Madonne Ashwin’s writing and direction are fine, but a more compelling screenplay in the second half would have enhanced the film’s outcome.
The cinematography and music are average, while the dubbing is well done. Some laggy scenes could have been trimmed by the editor to speed up the overall flow. The production values are satisfactory.
Verdict:
On the whole, Sivakarthikeyan’s Mahaveerudu is an action comedy film that clicks to an extent. Sivakarthikeyan’s impressive performance and decent comedy in the first half are the positive aspects. However, the pale narration in the second half leads to moments of boredom. If you’re comfortable with a slower pace and intermittent comedy, you can consider watching this movie this weekend.
