Actor Santosh Sobhan’s long-delayed film Prem Kumar has finally released today in theaters. Check out our review to know how the film fared.

Story:

After longing to marry, Prem Kumar (Santosh Sobhan) starts a break-up detective agency with his friend Sundara Lingam (Krishna Teja). Amidst this, Netra (Rashi Singh), a wedding planner, clashes with them. An event compels their collaboration. What is the event? Is there any relation between them? How is Roshan (Krishna Chaitanya) connected to this story? What happened finally? The movie will unfold the answers.

Plus Points:

Santosh Sobhan showcases his ability to convey subtle emotions through gestures. His dialogue delivery and well-timed humour manage to elicit genuine laughs.

Krishna Teja and Sudarshan deliver solid supporting roles that add humour and depth to the narrative beyond the main character’s journey.

The movie’s first half offers a few genuinely comedic moments, compared to the latter half.

Minus Points:

The weakest aspect of the movie is its storyline. Abhishek Maharshi’s directorial debut fails to transform Prem Kumar into an engaging comedy.

The writing and screenplay are inconsistent, with the second half particularly struggling to maintain the initial level of interest. Certain scenes needed a proper narrative progression, and attempts at humour often fell flat, resulting in a lacklustre experience in both halves.

Regrettably, the heroines Rashi Singh and Richita Sadineni have no scope to perform much, while Krishna Chaitanya’s performance as a Tollywood hero failed to make a significant impact. Supporting characters of Raj Madiraju and Prabhavathi lack meaningful development.

Technical Aspects:

Abhishek Maharshi’s writing is okay, but his direction skills are inadequate. Despite having Santosh Sobhan as the lead, the director misses the opportunity to deliver a strong comedy due to weak screenplay and boring scenes.

The music fails to leave a lasting impression, and the cinematography and production values remain average. Editor Garry BH could have tightened the narrative by trimming unnecessary scenes in both halves, considering the movie’s runtime.

Verdict:

On the whole, Prem Kumar is a disappointing comedy drama. Santosh Sobhan’s performance and comedy scenes scattered here and there are the only positives of this movie. Prem Kumar has nothing much to entertain.
