ZEE5 has now come up with the web series Maya Bazaar – For Sale, which stars Naresh Vijaya Krishna, Eesha Rebba, Jhansi Laxmi, and Meiyang Chang in the lead roles. The show is currently available for streaming in Telugu and Tamil. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
The show is about people living in a gated community named Maya Bazaar in Hyderabad. Padmanabhasastry, aka Pastry (Naresh), and his family move to a villa in Maya Bazaar. Actor Abhijeet (Navdeep) is the brand ambassador and also a resident of Maya Bazaar. Pastry invites Abhijeet to his villa, but the celebrity dies in a mysterious way. Also, CCDA Commissioner (Shiva Narayana) tells the residents that Maya Bazaar has been built on illegal land. How did the residents handle this situation, and what personal issues are they going through? This forms the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
The episode featuring Sunaina is hilarious, and the actress gave an outstanding performance. Sunaina as a housewife who gets cheated on by her husband, was terrific in the role, and the way she exhibits her frustration and fury is fantastic. Her funny antics will leave the audience in splits.
Seasoned actor Naresh performed well, as always. Meiyang Chang did a very fine job, and his emotional scene towards the end of the show worked well. Eesha Rebba was neat in her role. Jhansi, Aditi Myakal, and Raja Chembolu are decent. The voice-over given by Suma for a cow evokes a few laughs.
Minus Points:
Despite the interesting premise, the show isn’t engaging due to the poorly written-characters. There was ample scope to generate fun and emotions, but the pale execution makes Maya Bazaar a boring fare. The director gets it wrong right from the very first episode.
The way Navdeep’s character is introduced is pretty bad, and from this, we would get to know that a few characters would be over the top. That’s not the whole problem with Maya Bazaar. The screenplay goes on in an aimless and haphazard manner for the most part.
Navdeep’s character is insignificant to the story, and also the residents’ issue with the CCDA commissioner gets solved very easily. There is hardly any emotional connect. Except for Sunanina and Raja Chembolu’s subplot, other subplots are unexciting and dull. We don’t get to see more of the other characters making it tough to root for them.
Hari Teja and Ravi Varma’s track is boring and annoying. Comedian Gautham Raju’s comedy didn’t work out. The election track lacks punch, and the humor here didn’t land well as intended.
Technical Aspects:
Jerry Silvester Vincent’s music is decent. The cinematography by Naveen Yadav is neat, and he showcased the gated community in a cool manner with his lens. The editing is alright. The production values are too good.
Director Gautami Challagulla’s work is disappointing. Most of the episodes are uninteresting, as the show lacks proper drama and emotions. A few comedy scenes work, but the rest don’t. The premise was interesting, and the show could have been a wholesome entertainer had the presentation been good.
Verdict:
On the whole, Maya Bazaar- For Sale is a disappointing web show. The series has a neat premise, but that is let down by the execution. The lack of drama and basic emotions makes it tough to connect with the characters. A few characters cause irritation too. Except for a few fun moments, the series is a tedious watch.
