Sunil has teamed up with Isha Chawla for the film ‘Poola Rangadu’. The movie has been directed by Veerabhadram and K.Atchi Reddy is the producer. The movie has released today, so let us see how it is.

Story :

Ranga (Sunil) is a real estate broker who is in deep financial mess because of the downturn in the economy. He gets a chance to buy a prime piece of land near Warangal at a cheap prince and he completes the transaction with the help of moneylender Eadhara Gavarraju ( 30 years Industry fame Prithvi). But as he sets about searching for buyers, he realises that the land is locked in a fierce dispute between Konda Reddy (Dev Gil) and Lala Goud ( Pradeep Rawat).

As Ranga looks for a way out of the mess, he realizes that Lala Goud’s daughter Anitha (Isha Chawla) is the only solution to his problems. Through Anitha, and with the help of his friend Vasu (Ali), Ranga tries to bring the families of Konda Reddy and Lala Goud together. Will he succeed in his attempts? Will he succeed in bringing the two warring families closer? That forms the story.

Plus Points :

Sunil is outstanding in the role of Ranga. He shows tremendous skill and ease in dancing and his steps are a treat to watch. He has also performed very well in the climax fight sequence. His comic timing is as good as ever and he entertains big time. His imitation of Chiranjeevi’s dialogues in Indra and Mohan Babu’s mannerisms came out well.

Isha Chawla continues to impress and she will be a very big star in future. She looks good and shares good chemistry with Sunil. The scene where she proposes to Sunil on the rooftop has come out really well.

Ali and Raghubabu are good in their respective roles. Dev Gil and Pradeep Rawat are ok as the villains. Prithviraj brings about a few laughs as moneylender Eedhara Gavarraju. Telangana Sakunthala makes a brilliant and hilarious cameo appearance.

The first half of the movie is highly entertaining and the narration is fast paced. Songs are good to watch and director Veerabhadram has ensured that there is hardly a dull moment in the narrative. The climax fight has been shot very well and the audience will connect emotionally to the sequence.

Minus Points :

Whatever muscular physique Sunil has gained has come at the expense of his natural facial charm. He must take care of that aspect immediately. There is no proper justification to the title ‘Poola Rangadu’.

Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sudha and Duvvasi Mohan do not have much to do in the movie. The second half loses some of the tempo and the movie turns a bit slow and serious. The story line and some of the sequences have shades of Maryada Ramanna. Some scenes will remind you of hit Telugu movies of recent years. There is a lot of inconsistency in the etching of Dev Gil’s character.

Technical Aspects :

Veerabhadram has handled the story, screenplay and direction for this movie and he has done a good job. He will add to his reputation as a good commercial director. The screenplay in the first half is good but some care should have been taken in the second half. Editing is neat. Cinematography is alright.

Dialogues are very good and they deliver the required punch in key sequences. Anoop Rubens has done a good job with the background score, especially in the climax fight. Choreography is good and Sunil’s abilities have been utilized well.

Verdict :

Poola Rangadu is a good, clean entertainer. Sunil’s solid performance, Veerabhadram’s fast paced narrative and Isha Chawla’s glamour will work well at the Box Office. The movie may not have much to offer in terms of story and freshness, but then, that is not what movies of this kind are all about. Movies like this are meant to entertain and in this department, Poola Rangadu shines through. Thumbs up for Poola Rangadu!
