Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles, Tughlaq Durbar is available for streaming on Netflix now. Here’s our review of the film.

Story:

Singham(Vijay Sethupathi), an aspiring politician devises a wicked plan to progress through the ranks and emerge as a top gun in politics. But all of a sudden, he develops an alter ego that keeps him away from crossing the line. Can Singham fulfil his political aspirations? If yes, then how?

Plus Points:

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most versatile actors in South Indian cinema. He effortlessly delivers a winning performance in an energetic role. He shoulders the film with his witty portrayal. Raashi Khanna looks gorgeous and she does justice to her brief role.

The witty comedy that is evoked by passing satires on the modern day political infrastructure is good. The sarcastic take on current day politics is relatable and also evokes laughter. The brother-sister track is brief yet impactful.

Minus Points:

Tughlaq Durbar has a good storyline but the narrative is predictable. The viewers can easily predict what is about to happen next. The ending portion is silly.

The film is centered around Tamil politics and it understandably has a bit too much Tamil flavour. Telugu audiences might not relate to a few sequences in the film, owing to the Tamil-centric approach.

Technical Departments:

SS Lalit picks a political comedy subject and as far the comedy part goes, he does a fine job. The background score is decent. There is nothing much to speak about the songs.

Verdict:

Tughlaq Durbar is a middling political comedy which generates decent situational comedy. But the climax is silly. The film has a few bright moments here and there but too much Tamil flavour would mean that it doesn’t cater to all sections of the Telugu audiences. The film might make for an okayish one-time watch if you keep your expectations in check.
