Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, starring Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Sunny Kaushal, is now streaming on Netflix. Does it meet expectations or fall short? Read on to find out.
Story:
The film is set against the backdrop of Agra. Rani Saxena (Taapsee Pannu) and Rishab Saxena aka Rishu (Vikrant Massey) are desperate to flee India, haunted by the police’s suspicion of the murder of Neel Tripathi (Harshavardhan Rane), cousin of Rishu. Their plan takes a dangerous turn when Neel’s uncle, the wise police officer Mrityunjay (Jimmy Shergill), begins to closely monitor their every move. As the noose tightens, Rani devises a bold plan, with the unexpected help of Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal), a compounder who harbors deep feelings for her. But why is Abhimanyu so eager to assist, and what will Mrityunjay do next? Can Rani and Rishu escape their fate, or will their secrets finally catch up to them? The answers unravel in the gripping tale that follows.
Plus Points:
Taapsee Pannu delivers a standout performance as Rani, capturing a wide range of emotions with remarkable depth. Her portrayal of love, heartbreak, and passion is both captivating and authentic, making her character unforgettable.
Vikrant Massey complements her performance with his portrayal of a man deeply affected by his feelings for Rani. His depiction of desperation and longing is convincing, and his chemistry with Taapsee adds emotional weight to their interactions.
Sunny Kaushal delivers an impressive performance as a compounder with a deep admiration for Rani. His character brings an intriguing twist to the story, adding depth and complexity that enhances the overall narrative.
The film’s cinematography is noteworthy, beautifully showcasing the charm of Agra. The city is depicted in a way that enhances the overall viewing experience, making it a visually appealing backdrop for the story.
Minus Points:
Despite the decent performances, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor. The sequel is held back by a script that appears somewhat familiar and a plot that drags on without maintaining suspense.
The storyline lacks the intrigue necessary to keep viewers fully engaged. The roles of Jimmy Shergill and Aditya Srivastava are underdeveloped, missing opportunities to add depth to the film. The plot’s failure to introduce a more dynamic conflict makes it feel predictable and less compelling.
Despite being well-executed, the climax may not sit well with all viewers due to its attempt to justify the actions of characters with questionable morals. This narrative choice might leave some feeling uneasy.
Technical Aspects:
Kanika Dhillon’s script is a significant weakness, with its predictability and pacing issues. Director Jayprad Desai does his best with the material, but the film doesn’t quite hit its potential. Vishal Sinha’s cinematography stands out, offering a polished visual quality. The music by Sachet–Parampara and Anurag Saikia complements the film well, and the production values are adequate. The editing is poor, failing to resolve pacing issues and making the film less engaging.
Verdict:
On the whole, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is a romantic thriller that falls flat despite decent performances from Taapsee, Vikrant, and Sunny. The film’s predictable and overly stretched plot results in a lackluster experience. Fans of the prequel might find this sequel less compelling, so exploring other weekend entertainment options is advisable.
