Exclusive Interview : Samantha- Chay’s success is more important than my film’s outcome

Star heroine, Samantha has been aggressively promoting her latest film U-Turn for the past few days. As the film is ready for a release, we caught up with her for an exclusive interview. Here is the transcript.

We have made several changes to the original

The moment I saw the original, I felt that this film needed a larger audience. Also, I wanted to work with the director Pawan for a long time. Coming to the remake, we made several changes from the original to suit the Telugu nativity. The last 20 minutes will be quite thrilling and impress the audience completely.

Releasing with Chay’s film was never planned

It is a bit stressful that both Chay and my film are coming on the same date. As U-Turn is also releasing in Tamil simultaneously, things were pre-planned in such a way that it was hard to change the release date. All I want is both the films should be superhits at the box office. Personally, as a wife, Chay’s happiness is more important than anything and that is the reason I am even more stressed out this time.

I haven’t broken the myth yet

Things are changing for good as female-oriented scripts are slowly coming out in Tollywood. Many say that I have broken the myth of married actors being successful, but I feel that I need to give four more hits in another year so that the myth will really be broken. Heroines like Sonam, Anushka Sharma, Jyothika are happily doing films and now there is not much choice for makers to avoid married actors like us(laughs).

Chay’s support is unimaginable

For any working woman to be successful, her husband’s support is a must. In that case, Chay’s support is just imaginable. He is the one who is pushing me to do different things in my career. For that matter, the entire Annapurna Studios family has been supporting me in all my endeavors which is such a rare thing these days.

Tollywood needs more female-oriented films

Heroines like Anushka and Nayanthara are leading the way by doing female-oriented films and are even drawing good box office numbers. As I play a crucial role in U-Turn, I felt that I should market this film as much as I can. Whether I would be able to pull crowds to the theaters by doing such different films, the result will be known only on the 13th of this month.

There is no competition between us

Being in the glamor field, we actresses are pitted against each other by the media. I have faced situations where several famous heroines have avoided me in functions just because of the articles that were written about us competing with each other. I feel that if an actress grows, others will also grow and get good chances.

Dubbing was always on my list

As I have evolved as an actress now, I wanted to prove myself in everything I do with my films. So, dubbing on my own was always on my checklist. Initially, it was a bit difficult for me to dub but I am enjoying it now.

Producing films is on my mind

Now that I am in the industry for over 9 years, I feel that I have slowly got to know what people like and dislike. As a part of the Annapurna compound, you can also see me producing films with good content in the future.

I encourage criticism but not trolling

There is too much negativity on the social media these days. I am game for healthy criticism but not trolling. I love blocking those who troll me on Twitter. At the end of the day, we are here because of the public and there are many instances where I have changed myself after reading what is written about me.

No plans of entering Bollywood

Everywhere I go, people asked me when will I do a Hindi film. My answer to them is that I am very happy doing films in Telugu and Tamil and there is still a long way to go. This is the right time for me to experiment and you will see more exciting work from me in the coming days.

Sai Pallavi and Rashmika impressed are the future

With each passing day, Tollywood is getting some very talented actors. Nowadays, all the heroines are well trained and are giving their best. Especially stars like Sai Pallavi and Rashmika, I have seen their work and feel that they are extremely talented and will go a long way in the future.

I will announce a new film soon

I have already started shooting with Chay for a film and there is another big project which I will announce soon.

With that, we ended our exclusive interview with Samantha and wished her the best of luck for U-Turn and future projects.
