The most-awaited movie Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, hit the screens today. Directed by Siva Koratala, this high-budget entertainer has generated a lot of positive buzz. Dive into our review to find out how the film measures up.

Story:

Set in Ratnagiri, a coastal village near the Red Sea, the movie features Devara (Jr NTR), Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), Rayappa (Srikanth), and others as the bigwigs of their respective villages. They assist a powerful figure, Muruga (Murali Sharma), in smuggling goods from ships. Devara realises these activities are wrong, but Bhaira disagrees, leading him to plan to kill Devara. In a twist of events, Devara disappears, and twelve years pass. Bhaira rules Ratnagiri, still determined to find and kill Devara. Vara, Devara’s son, is innocent and helpless. He later joins forces with Bhaira. Why does Vara ally with Bhaira? Is he going against his father’s wishes? Does Vara have any bad memories of Devara? Where is Devara, and is he alive? Has Bhaira managed to hunt down Devara? Why does he want to kill Devara? All these questions will be answered in the movie.

Plus Points:

Jr NTR proves his mettle once again with solid performances in Devara: Part 1, captivating audiences in two distinct roles – Devara and Vara. As Devara, he embodies humility and destructiveness, while his portrayal of Vara showcases innocence and cowardice. He effectively balances both roles, delivering an engaging performance.

Saif Ali Khan shines as Bhaira, a character-driven by revenge against Devara, marking a commendable debut for him in Tollywood. Janhvi Kapoor performs adequately, and her scenes with young NTR add a fun dynamic to the film.

The action sequences are standout moments, expertly crafted to enthrall the audience and provoke enthusiastic reactions. Additionally, several dialogues elevate Devara’s character and add an entertaining touch. Supporting performances by Srikanth, Prakash, and others contribute positively to the film.

Minus Points:

While the story is entertaining, it tends to be predictable. Koratala Siva could have improved certain portions, particularly in the second half, where the screenplay could have been more engaging.

Some scenes lack effective execution, and enhancing these moments could have made a significant impact on the overall film.

Janhvi Kapoor’s role is limited to a few scenes, which may disappoint her fans due to the minimal opportunity for her to showcase her talent. Prakash Raj’s performance is decent, but his backstory could have been better developed.

Saif Ali Khan’s role also feels constrained in the second half, and the climax arrives rather abruptly, leaving audiences in shock.

Technical Aspects:

Siva Koratala succeeds as both writer and director; however, the writing could have benefited from refinement, especially in the second half. The emotional depth of the story could have been explored more thoroughly.

The cinematography by Ratnavelu and Anirudh Ravichander’s music are exceptional, enhancing the overall cinematic experience. Editing by Sreekar Prasad is satisfactory, but there’s room for improvement in the second half. The action choreography is impressive, and the production values are commendable.

Verdict:

On the whole, Devara: Part 1 is an action-packed drama that delivers entertainment. Jr NTR carries the film with his outstanding performance, while Janhvi Kapoor adds her charm, and Saif Ali Khan is commendable in his role. On the downside, the film runs on a predictable storyline and some lagging scenes in the second half. Don’t miss out – grab your tickets and make your weekend special.
