Director Y.V.S. Chowdhary’s ‘Bommarillu’ banner is entering into its 12th year and the director hosted a special press meet to interact with journalists on this occasion. His film ‘Lahiri Lahiri Lahiri Lo’ released on May 1st 2002 and it went on to become a big hit. Y.V.S. spoke about his passion for films, his future plans and the status of his current film. Read on to see what he had to say.
Q. May 1st seems to be a special day for you…
A. Yes. May 1st is an unforgettable day in my life. The day has an important place in world history, but it has personal significance for me. My film ‘Lahiri Lahiri Lahiri Lo’, made on Bommarillu banner, released on this day in 2002 and gave me a new life. It is a movie that was born out of my dreams.
Q. Why did you name your banner ‘Bommarillu’ ?
A. In rural slang, Bomma means film. They say “Arey bomma chusava?”, which means, “Have you seen the film?”. So I took Bomma in that context and ‘illu’ means house. So ‘Bommarillu’ is a house that makes films. I named my banner that way.
Q. Who inspired you to come into films?
A. Swargeeya Sri N.T.Rama Rao garu. He inspired me to pursue films. I am a very big fan of NTR garu. I am also very thankful to Akkineni Nagarjuna garu for giving me my first break as a director.
Q. What is the status of Sai Dharam Tej’s ‘Rey’?
A. ‘Rey’ is being made with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s nephew Sai Dharam Tej, Shabana Azmi’s niece Sayami Kher and Shraddha Das. One heroine has a positive characterisation and the other heroine has a negative characterisation. Shooting has been wrapped. Incidentally, today is the last day of the shoot. Only patchwork shots remain.
Q. What are your expectations from the film?
A. I am very confident about the movie. Movie lovers have always blessed me for good work. Rey is a love story with a big canvas. “Mass orientation untu, class ki reach avvagala cinemas undatledhu. Youth ki reach ayye big films thagginiy”. Only small budget films are reaching out to youngsters these days and we are seeing how successful they are turning out to be. ‘Rey’ is a film that will connect to youth immensely. Such a big budget youth love story has not come out in recent times. It will do 30 crores business.
Q. When will the movie hit the screens?
A. I am planning to release the film within the next 45 days. Post-production activities are currently on. The final release will also depend on the release dates of other mega family films. We will sit and take a call soon.
Q. Music is an integral part of your films. What can we expect from ‘Rey’?
A. The music of ‘Rey’ has come out really well. Chakri and Chandrabose have done a superb job in this area and youngsters will connect very strongly to this audio album.
Q. What are your future projects?
A. I have designed 4 other films in my banner and I plan to complete them within the next 2 – 2.5 years.
1. ‘Krishna Mukunda Murari’ will come as a sequel to ‘Lahiri Lahiri Lahiri Lo’.
2.’Yevvari Maata Vinadu’ will be a sequel to ‘Seethayya’ .
3. ‘CM – Common Man’ will be a powerful drama
4.’Thanks Baby – Nannu Love Cheyananduku’ will be a love story.
I will formally announce the cast and crew of these films at a later date.
Q. You take a lot of time to complete your projects. Will you complete all 4 within two years?
A. Projects take time during scripting and planning stages. Once that is done, films can be executed in 6 – 7 months. I have shot films in under 8 months in the past. I have already worked on all the scripts and I am confident about completing these projects within my stipulated time.
With that Y.V.S. wrapped up the brief interaction. The sequels and the titles sure sound interesting. Let us see how they shape up over the next couple of months.
