Adah Sharma is back with her new film Kalki which hit the screens yesterday. On this occasion, we caught up with her for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.

Why are you doing such few films?

Post Kshanam, I consciously made a decision that I should choose my subjects cleverly. So, I am doing fewer films in Telugu. I need to connect to my role even though it does not have much length in the film.

How did you bag this offer?

Prashanth saw some of my old films and offered me this role. The role was tiny but it had good scope for me and the effect of my role in the film was good. So, I accepted the role and now I am very proud of the film.

How was it portraying your role in the film?

I never played a doctor before and the brief for me was to emote things with my eyes. My expressions should speak a thousand words said, my director. The role also did not have much physical contact and had to showcase how love was sacred in the ’80s.

What about you getting less screen-time in the movie?

Every role, every character in every movie has its own scope. It is about what you do with the role. It’s old-fashioned to think about how much is the screen time. I enjoyed playing the role in ‘Kalki’ because she is different from how I am in real life. She is not a bubbly, happy girl. She is understated.

How did you prepare for this role?

I watched a lot of retro films. The body language of girls back then was different. They were wearing sarees and, naturally, the body language would change in terms of how they sit, etc. There are actresses like Waheeda Rehman whose body language was versatile.

How was it working with the talented Rajasekhar?

I am very fortunate to have got to work with someone vastly experienced like Rajasekhar garu. He has done so much in the film industry. He is always enthusiastic and sees himself as a newcomer. He treated me not as a junior. He loves his craft.

What are your upcoming projects?

I am doing ‘Commando-3’ in Hindi. I am also doing ‘Holiday’, a web series. ‘Man To Man’ is another romantic comedy which will be released in three languages. I am playing a man in the film. Two short films of mine are going to be out soon.
