Bhumika Chawla is going great guns in her second innings and is doing some very interesting roles. One of them is in the upcoming film U-Turn. On the eve of the film’s release, we caught up with her for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

I watched the original before okaying this film

When the director Pawan came up to me with this role, I happened to see the original and liked it very much. The way he molded the script a bit for Telugu audience caught my attention and I signed the film right away.

I played the role according to my understanding

All through my career, I chose my roles where there is a slight improvement from the previous ones I played. My character in U-Turn is very important in the film and I played it according to my understanding and how my director wanted it to be. We discussed a lot and then went for the shoots.

Samantha is a very intense and powerful actress

I only saw Eega and Rangasthalam and felt that Samantha is a very intense and powerful actress. On the sets, she is very cheerful but once she dons the makeup, she performs quite brilliantly and U-Turn will be quite special for Sam in her career.

Duration of the role doesn’t matter

A lot of people ask me as to how long will you be seen in the film. For me, the duration of the role is not important. Even if I am there for just a few scenes, I need to make an impact and people will remember me for that. Those days are gone where one needs to be there for the entire duration of the film.

Roles should be written more for 30 and 40 plus actresses

Things are slowly changing nowadays and roles are being written quite sensitively. But I feel that our writers need to come up with roles for actresses who are 30 and 40 plus. Then only things will really move forward and strong films like Tumhari Sulu will come in Telugu as well.

I will very soon complete twenty years in the industry

Things are going well for me as I am getting good roles these days. I want to play characters which will be remembered by the audience and give me a good scope for performance. Next year, I will complete twenty years in the industry and that is a long time that I have been around. Times have changed and so am I changing myself and doing meaningful cinema now.
