Vishwak Sen is now coming up with an intense action drama, Gangs of Godavari, which has Anjali and Neha Sshetty as the female leads. Directed by Krishna Chaitanya, Yuvan Shankar Raja scored the music. Produced by S. Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas and presented by Srikara Studios, the film is set for release on May 31. Ahead of the film’s release, the director interacted with the media, and here is the transcript.

Not many films dealt with the conflicts and politics in the Godavari region. Could you tell us about it?

There are murders and conflicts in the Andhra region as well, just like in Rayalaseema and Telangana. Showing Godavari in a picturesque way every time felt very cliched for me. We are not that. There is more to Godavari than meets the eye. Through this film, I got the opportunity to tell a good story paired with neat emotions. The whole cast and crew supported my story.

Did you have any apprehensions before starting the project?

The only apprehension I had was the accent. Vishwak speaks Telangana slang, and our story is set in an Andhra backdrop. So, I told him to focus a little more on the dialect. We hired a tutor. He learned for 15 days, and within a month, Vishwak got the dialect right.

Will the film contain cuss words?

My film got a U/A certificate, and we muted certain words in the final version. We used them during the trailer because there was no censorship. I wanted people to understand the intent of the movie. We started shooting for this movie on May 8, 2023 and wrapped it up by May 8, 2024. We wanted to shoot for 95 days, but we shot for 103 days.

Did you watch the film completely?

I watched the film, and while I was watching it, I found it very good and felt really happy. I had tears in my eyes after seeing the output. Gangs of Godavari unfolds the saying, “You are your own enemy.” Personally, this story is very close to me. Everyone can do action, but emotions can be shown only if you feel them. In this film, the last 20 minutes will be an emotional rollercoaster, and they will hit people hard. I am very confident about it.

Could you tell us about the performances of the actors?

All the actors gave their best for their respective roles. This movie has so many gangs involved in it, but this is not a gangster story, and I request people not to consider it as a gangster film. There are no gangsters in this movie. Yuvan Shankar Raja provided amazing music.

Will there be a sequel to Gangs of Godavari?

I have plans to make a sequel, but nothing has been finalized yet. If Gangs of Godavari becomes successful, then I will write the sequel story in a month and then start filming.
