Nandamuri Kalyanram is known for his knack in selecting unique scripts right from the beginning of his career and is bringing another interesting film titled Devil – The British Secret Agent. Samyuktha Menon and Malavika Nair play key roles in the film. The film is directed and produced by Abhishek Nama. Ahead of the release this Friday, Kalyanram interacted with the media, and here is the transcript.

How did the project start?

In 2021, Srikanth Vissa came and narrated the story. Devil carries a Sherlock Holmes kind of vibe. After listening to the script, I asked him if he had written the story for me. Then I told Srikanth two things. I said we would make the film if we made changes in the script in a commercial style, keeping the hero characterization and the backdrop the same.

What’s your take on the failure of Amigos?

I always try to present new films to the audience. I missed the commercial elements in Amigos. I never thought of adding some commercial elements. It was a misfire. I have taken care to have commercial aspects in this film. I found it new to have commercial elements mixed in an investigative thriller. It is a purely fictional movie.

What about the highlights of the film?

There are a lot of high moments in the film. But you need to experience them only on the big screens. Then, only you can experience the adrenaline rush. If there is a patriotism angle or not, you have to wait for the 29th.

Tell us about the female leads

Samyukta Menon and Malavika Nair have very good roles. Not only their characters but every character in the story is important. Samyukta Menon’s character is equally important as the hero’s. Malavika Nair has a different track altogether, but she was amazing.

Will there be any sequel to Devil?

We had a discussion about Devil’s sequel. We also did 40-50% of script work. We also wanted to shoot at one stage. But we didn’t want to mix everything. We will announce the sequel on December 29 after seeing the response to the film.
