Shyam Singh Roy is up for a release on the 24th of this month. On this occasion, we caught up with Nani for a detailed interview. Here is the transcript.
How is it to have a big-screen release after a long time?
I am very happy and have always said that watching a movie on the big screen is the ultimate experience. Due to the Covid situation, my last two films went to the theaters. But we are ready with my career’s biggest film in Shyam Singha Roy.
What made you say yes to this film?
The day I heard the script, I told Rahul that we are doing this film. The subject matter and period backdrop attracted me a lot. The way Rahul blended the past and present attracted me the most.
How did you prepare for the role of Shyam Singha Roy?
It did not take me much time to get into the role of SSR. I had to portray two different roles and when the role of SSR was locked and the moment I wore the costumes, everything skinked in so well. I had also put on a bit of weight and worked hard on the diction part.
Working experience with Rahul Sankrytan?
Rahul has given his life and soul to the film. The maturity he has for his age is quite good. Right from every detail in the film to the final output, he has made a solid film. He does not get excited about small things and silently does his work.
This film is made on a huge budget. Is the pressure to deliver bothering you?
Yes, there is pressure on me to deliver. But deep down in my heart, I am super confident with the film’s outcome. Once the film gets released, the audience will speak for itself. I had invested in the story a lot and the same confidence will make this film a hit.
Working with the likes of Krithi Shetty?
She is just one film old and likes to learn a lot. She is very enthusiastic to do different films in her career and has done a very good job and will go a long way ahead.
About the music?
Mickey J Meyer has done a superb job with the music. More than his work, Sirivennela garu’s lyrics have taken the film to the next level. The moment he used to send lyrics we used to go in a trance. I feel we have all his blessings for our film.
About your chemistry with Sai Pallavi?
I had worked with her in MCA and she has not changed one bit. Both I and Sai Pallavi used to discuss that we should do a serious drama where there is so much scope to perform. That has come true with SSR and Sai Pallavi will bowl you away with her performance.
About your new film Dasara?
The film is in the last leg of its shoot. Not many know that we are spending more than on this film than Shyam Singha Roy. It is also coming out well. Then, there is Ante Sundaraniki as well.
