Kalyanam Kamaneeyam, which stars Santosh Soban and Priya Bhavani Shankar in lead roles, is releasing in theatres on 14th January. Debutant Anil Kumar Aalla is the director. Produced by UV Concepts, the movie has the music of Shravan Bharadwaj. Devi Prasad plays a key role, and Karthik Gattamneni handles the cinematography. Ahead of the release, we met with the lead actor Santosh Soban for a brief interview, and here is the transcript.

What’s the intention behind having the release for Sankranthi?

It has always been my dream to release my film for Sankranthi. Also, big hero films are releasing, and I am planning to watch Veera Simha Reddy, Waltair Veerayya, and Vaarasudu as per their release order. So it is very special for me to have a Sankranthi release on the same day Varsham was released. I feel it is a great coincidence.

When did the project start?

It all began during the shoot of Ek Mini Katha. Co-producer and my friend Ajay introduced Anil Kumar to me. He pitched me then, which instantly impressed me. Kalyanam Kamaneeyam is a relatable story that gets made very rarely.

How different will your role be from your other films?

All the roles I did were away from realism. On the other hand, Shiva in Kalyanam Kamaneeyam is a grounded role that has no fakery. According to the situation, my character reacts, and I realized that acting must not be designed towards winning applause.

Can you tell us about Priya Bhavani Shankar’s role?

She plays Shruthi, a working woman. I play Shiva, who is jobless and gets married to Shruthi. But the film isn’t limited to it. It will be interesting to watch how a newly married couple will sort out their issues. It is an experimental film and not a regular one.

How do you see life?

Interdependency is the most important thing in life. My mother had to take all the responsibility for bringing my brother and me up when my father passed. There might be a situation when a husband depends entirely on his wife financially. It can also lead to differences.

Can you tell a few words about UV Creations?

UV Creations has always been like my family, and I did three films with them. I am ready to do thirty films with them, and it is so great that I have teamed up with the likes of Maruthi anna so early in my career. I have also learned much from Anil and worked with Merlapaka Gandhi.

What about your future projects?

Generally, the final decision about my films completely rests on me. I joined hands with Nandini Reddy for a movie named Anni Manchi Shakunamule, which is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. Apart from it, I am also working on an action flick.
