Shekhar Kammula is back with yet another film called Love Story. The film will release this Friday and on this occasion, we spoke to him about the film in detail. Here is the transcript.

What is different about your Love Story?

All my earlier romantic dramas had a small conflict point within the family or between the couple. The canvas for Love Story is big and we have touched upon big issues like the caste system and gender inequality. They will be showcased through a gripping drama.

Such issues have been there for decades. What kind of a solution have you showcased?

One has to agree that the caste system and gender inequality have been there for many years. Even now, in this modern time and age, it is rampant and I feel that I have showcased a decent solution for these issues. I cannot abolish them forever but to the best of my possibility, I have tried to give a solution.

The film was postponed multiple times. How frustrating was that?

Things have been quite frustrating and it is only because of my producers we have pulled it till here. From day one, they always wanted to have a theatrical release. They have spent double the money due to Covid and did not complain one bit even though they had tempting OTT offers. Not only the team but the entire industry is waiting to see how much will the film draw the family audience to the theatres.

Working with Chay Akkineni?

Chay Akkineni has gone all out for Love Story. Be it the multiple dates he has given or the effort he put into his dubbing, Chay has given his life for the film. In a way, you can say that he has given an award-winning performance for this film. He believed in the script from day one and even worked hard on his dancing. His dedication and sincerity will take him places.

Why did you choose Sai Pallavi again for Love Story?

I was quite impressed with Sai Pallavi in Fidaa. As the film was set in Telangana, she was the obvious choice. Her role is completely different from that of Fidaa and Sai Pallavi did a solid job. Her role has so many shades and has a lot of inner conflicts within. So, who better than Sai Pallavi for this role I felt.

Tell us about choosing a new guy Pawan for music?

Pawan is a disciple of AR Rahman and has given wonderful music. I knew him for a long time and felt that a fresh talent will suit the story. But Pawan has crossed my imagination and has given hit music for this film which is one of the highlights.

Tell us about the other key cast of the film?

Eshwari Rao plays Chay’s mom and she is superb in the film. Rajeev Kanakala, Uttej, and Ananda Chakrapani have done the key roles and this time, I purposely wanted seasoned actors as the subject is intense and it should register with the audience right away.

How confident are you about the outcome of the film?

I have loved each and every character and wrote a gripping love story. I purposely added more drama in the trailer to raise the expectations of the audience. The film will surely reach all expectations and there will be a repeat audience for the film.
