Butta Bomma starring Anikha Surendran, Arjun Das and Surya Vashistta is up for a grand release this Saturday in theaters worldwide. On this occasion we met with the film’s director Shouree Chandrashekhar T Ramesh for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

Tell us about your movie journey  :

I did my MBA (marketing) and as I have a passion for movies, I entered the film industry. In my initial days, I worked for a few Hindi films like Shool, Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega and Bardaasht. Later I met director Sukumar and worked for Jagadam.

Why did you choose a remake as your debut film?

I happened to watch the Kappela on OTT during the pandemic. I loved the film’s screenplay and thought, it could be remade into any language. As I felt excited, I approached Chinna Babu garu. He gave a nod and thus Butta Bomma happened.

About the cast of Butta Bomma :

I liked the performance of Anikha Surendran in Gautam Vasudev Menon’s Queen. I suggested her name to Chinna Babu garu, and he okayed her. Arjun Das is purely Naga Vamsi’s choice, and coming to Surya, he was suggested by Vamsi and Chinna Babu garu. After the screentest, I was impressed with his acting and roped him in. I am confidently saying that Butta Bomma will give them fame for sure.

How different is Butta Bomma from the original movie?

Though it’s a remake, we have made many changes according to our culture and nativity. We didn’t change the core point but made a significant screenplay change in the film’s first half. I am confident that even the Kappela’s director would think, “why didn’t I get this thought?” if he watched Butta Bomma.

Tell us about the film’s music

The background score has a lot of importance in this movie. Gopi Sundar garu composed a track besides giving a fresh score. Sweekar Agasthi also composed a song.

How did you deal with comparisons?

I never worried about comparisons as I am confident that the original movie is limited to urban audiences only. So, I believe that Butta Bomma will work out in Telugu.

Future Projects

As of now, I signed no new films but I would like to direct an action movie. I will share the details if I sign any projects.
