1920: Horrors of the Heart is written by Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. He also is the presenter of this Avika Gor starrer which is directed by Krishna Bhatt. The movie hit the screens today, and let’s see how it is.
Story:
Meghana (Avika Gor) learns that her mother is the reason behind her father’s untimely death. Meghana decides to take revenge against her mother, who cheated her father. Meghana also feels sad since her mother didn’t shower her with love during childhood. After a few dramatic moments, Meghana targets her mother and Aditi (the second daughter of Meghana’s mother). In this process, Meghana part ways with her lover Arjun. Did Meghana succeed in taking revenge against her mother? This forms part of the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
A few horror effects are good in 1920: Horrors of the Heart. The sentiment portions in the climax are okay. Coming to performances, Avika Gor, Rahul Dev, Barkha Bisht, Danish Pandor, Randheer Rai, and Ketaki Kulkarni did a very good job. Avika Gor leaves her mark with her delightful performance in a few scenes.
Rahul Dev, Barkha Bisht, and Danish Pandor, who played other vital roles in this horror flick, are pretty good. Barkha Bisht aced it to perfection as a woman who is worried about what’s happening around her. Also, she encounters a few paranormal incidents, and Barkha Bisht’s performance is amazing in those scenes.
Minus Points:
The film might be liked by those who enjoy horror elements in silly horror flicks. But the movie will not entertain the general audience. The silly horror drama is present throughout the film, and it will cause severe irritation to the viewers. There are some disgusting shots that are tough to watch. The scene in which a rat comes out from Avika Gor’s mouth is utterly disgusting.
Makers took extreme cinematic liberties, and many scenes look unconvincing. The screenplay is filled with such unbelievable scenes which are far from reality, and hence there is no scope for having interesting moments. Every scene is a tad slow and is dragged for no reason. The treatment is no different, and it kills the audience’s interest. Barkha Bisht’s character looked fake.
The track related to Randheer Rai’s character is also not good. The lack of a good screenplay and the slow-paced narration in the pre-climax and second half are the main drawbacks of this horror film.
Technical Aspects:
Though the director Krishna Bhatt tried to captivate the audience by infusing a few good horror scenes, she failed in coming up with a good story and screenplay. Prakash Kutty’s cinematography is good. Puneet Dixit’s music is just okay. Editing is decent. The production values are neat.
Verdict:
On the whole, 1920: Horror of the Hearts is a disappointing horror flick. The film doesn’t entertain in any manner. It has an unconvincing story, slow-paced narration, and bad screenplay. A few horror scenes are good, and the artists did a decent job. But the movie fails to amuse as a whole.
