Chakravyuham, starring actor Ajay in a crucial role, has hit the screens today. Directed by Chetkuri Madhusudhan, the film was released by the popular production house Mythri Movie Makers. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Siri (Urvashi Paradesi), the wife of Sanjay Rao (Vivek Trivedi), is found dead in her house with her throat slit. S.I. Satya (Ajay) is the investigative officer, and he initially thinks Sanjay is the culprit. Also, he suspects Sharath, a close friend and business partner of Sanjay Rao. As one crore worth of cash and gold gets lost from the house after the murder, Satya casts his doubt on a maid working in Siri’s house. Who actually killed Siri? What prompted the killer to murder Siri? This forms part of the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

The film starts off quite well, and the director didn’t waste any time to get into the plot. Ajay starts the investigation, and we see him visually imagine what would have happened with regard to the murder from different viewpoints. These initial scenes are pretty interesting and succeed in drawing attention.

What otherwise could have been a routine crime thriller got saved by a good climax. Ajay, Vivek Trivedi, and Urvashi Paradesi are fine in their respective roles. Pragya Nayan is decent. The film is just about 110 minutes, and the pacing is good. The makers conveyed the message, which is “Greed causes more sorrow.”

Minus Points:

While the initial scenes are gripping, it didn’t take much time for the film to nosedive. Unfortunately, the momentum created in the first few minutes didn’t carry forward as we get to see some lengthy flashback portions. These sequences are bland and quite boring at the same time.

The twists that are revealed during the mid portions of the second half looked silly. The conviction is heavily missing, and the film also has some over-the-top scenes devoid of logic. Ajay’s characterization could have been stronger as he solves the case without much of a struggle.

As the film progresses, the investigation portions become weak. A good background score is very important for thrillers, but there might be more harm than good if it is not handled well. Chakravyuham gets it wrong in this crucial aspect too.

Technical Aspects:

As mentioned earlier, Bharat Manchiraju’s background score is bad, and also it didn’t sync with the proceedings. G V Ajay Kumar’s camera work is good. The editing is nice, and the production values are decent.

Coming to the director, Chetkuri Madhusudhan, he did a below-par job with the film. The starting and ending portions are nicely presented, but the mid portions are ineffective for the most part. Whodunit thrillers like Chakravyuham should have a tight screenplay, but this thriller falters in intriguing the audience.

Verdict:

On the whole, Chakravyuham is an uninteresting whodunit thriller. Except for a few scenes, this film is quite boring. Ajay and others did a good job, but the movie fell flat in terms of execution. Hence Chakravyuham ends up being a disappointing watch.
