Numerous awards-winning Tamil movie, Kida, is dubbed into Telugu as Deepavali and released in theaters today. Read our review to know how the movie is.

Story :

In a remote village, Seenaiah (Poo Ramu) lives with his grandson Ganesh (Deepan) and their pet goat, Karrodu. Ganesh wishes for a new Deepavali dress, and though Seenaiah promises to make it happen, getting the money proves to be challenging. To fulfill his grandson’s dream, Seenaiah makes a tough decision. Meanwhile, butcher Veerasaamy (Kaali Venkat) needs a goat to open his own butcher shop, but faces obstacles due to lack of funds. What unfolds next? Did Seenaiah manage to buy Ganesh a new dress? Did Veerasaamy find a goat? The movie provides the answers.

Plus Points:

The storyline is simple yet heartwarming, particularly in the climax.

Poo Ramu (late), as the grandfather, delivers a standout performance, especially in the emotionally charged scenes. His expressions leave a lasting impression.

Kaali Venkat successfully embodies the character of Veerasaamy, a drunken butcher, delivering a commendable performance.

Other cast members, including Master Deepan, deliver natural performances, showcasing their dedication towards the film. The music, especially during the emotional sequences, adds a significant emotional depth to the movie.

Minus Points:

While the story is simple but heartwarming, emphasising the joy of helping each other during tough times, it grapples with pacing issues.

Director Ra Venkat’s slow narration, particularly in the first half, hinders the overall flow. The first half could benefit from a faster pace, while the second half offers some relief.

Movies of this nature thrive on a crisp runtime and a well-maintained pace, aspects that are unfortunately lacking here. The slow narration significantly impacts the film’s overall performance.

Technical Aspects:

Director Ra Venkat strives to tell a realistic story, but attention to pacing could be improved for a more engaging experience.

The music, skillfully handled by Theeson, stands out as a highlight, uplifting the movie at every opportunity. The cinematography by M Jayaprakash is satisfactory, but the editing, especially in the first half, requires refinement.

Production values are commendable, capturing the village ambience effectively. KB Nandu’s artwork successfully conveys rustic vibes.

Verdict:

On the whole, Deepavali is a slow-paced emotional drama that has commendable performances from the lead actors and a meaningful message. On the flip side, the film is weighed down by sluggish narration and a lengthy runtime. The movie might work for limited audiences.
