Overall Impression Of The Movie:

Love Failure is the first production from Siddharth’s Etaki Entertainment and like any other Siddharth’s film, it comes with its own set of expectations which primarily revolve around light-hearted romance in an urbane setting. Given Siddharth’s tendency to work with debutante directors, he ropes in Balaji Mohan who makes his debut in this debut production!!!

What Is It About:

Scene 1 starts with Parvathi (Amala Paul) and Arun (Siddharth) breaking up in college without giving a clue on the reason behind the break-up and then scene 2 has Siddharth talking about his Love Failure which he intersperses with flashbacks from his own love story with Amala. This racy conversational narration of Siddharth shows their journey from being just friends to sharing something more meaningful while also slipping in little episodes about their friends and respective families which is what the first half is all about.
The second half introduces in two more parallel stories about a divorce and an insecure boyfriend to contrast with the main love story and indirectly help the leads in understanding what went wrong with their relationship. Needless to say, all the three stories come to a happy ending without involving bloodshed or an overdose of tears.

What Is Good:

The strength of Love Failure is in its dialogues and it’s the conversational style of narration. The characters speak in your everyday language and the wry sarcastic humor in it is a welcome change from the slapstick comedy found in most mainstream movies.
Entire scenes breeze past in this light manner which had most of the audience connecting with those situations in the first half. Siddharth delivers a believable performance again with his experience of having done many similar roles in the past.
Amala Paul is another surprise as the girl next door and she makes it believable by acting as one. The supporting cast pitches in with spirited performances while the three catchy songs by Thamam flow smoothly into the narrative.

What Is Bad:

Love failure falters in the second half where it tries to get ambitious by introducing the sub-plots which dilute the main story and try to give deeper meaning to college romance. It’s highly unlikely that a college student would be influenced by situations involving grown-ups and their relationships that have survived many years.
Also, the screenplay in the second half confuses at times by jumping between the past and present and the sub-plots which leave you wondering what happened last.
The movie will have limited appeal as there are virtually no commercial elements in the movie.

Me Thinks:

Love Failure is directed at the college goers and multiplex audiences who also comprise the main audience for Siddharth’s films. The dialogues around the concept that men are from mars while women are from venus might appeal to them . Overall, Love Failure might click only with this limited audience since most of the “mainstream entertainment elements” are missing.

Tailpiece:

Balaji Mohan makes a guest appearance as one of the love failures towards the end!!!
