Neethone Nenu, a small Telugu film starring Vikas Vasishta, Mokksha, and Kushitha Kallapu, has hit screens today. Delve into our review to see how it fares.
Story:
Ram (Vikas Vasishta) is a dedicated teacher in a government school, and Ayesha (Kushitha Kallapu) is the school’s PT instructor who’s enchanted by his altruism. Ayesha’s world crumbles when she discovers Ram’s marriage to Sita (Mokksha). As the story unfolds, a startling revelation about Ram’s enigmatic past emerges, leaving her in shock. What is it? Who is the real Ram, and what secrets are hidden in his backstory? The movie holds all the answers.
Plus Points:
Vikas Vasishta, known for his fine performances in Cinema Bandi and Mukha Chitram, returns with this new film, portraying an inspiring teacher with simplicity and charm.
Kushitha Kallapu, a social media sensation, makes her debut as the leading lady in this movie and handles her role admirably.
Despite the limited screen time, Mokksha convincingly portrays her character of a caring wife. The rest of the actors deliver okay performances in their respective roles.
Minus Points:
Producer Mamidi Sudhakar also serves as the story, screenplay, and dialogue writer for the film. The primary issue lies within the story itself, which feels overly familiar, reminiscent of many Telugu films. Predicting the interval twist within the first few minutes is not challenging. Introducing freshness into the plot could have significantly enhanced the viewer’s experience during the two-hour runtime.
The screenplay progresses at a languid pace, intensifying the predictability of the storyline. Director Anji Ram missed an opportunity to provide a more engaging treatment to the characters and thus the story.
The film features numerous melodramatic scenes that resemble a TV serial, with some scenes being excessively prolonged, leading to a sense of tedium, particularly in the flashback portions.
While the score by Karthik Kodakandla serves its purpose in some sequences, the songs fail to make a lasting impact, and certain dialogues come across as overly dramatic.
Technical Aspects:
Director Anji Ram’s attempt to rejuvenate a well-worn, highly predictable story falls short of expectations. Mamidi Sudhakar’s narrative lacks innovation, and a more captivating screenplay could have revitalised the plot.
As mentioned earlier, the score fulfils its role, though the songs lack memorability. Editor Prathap Kumar missed opportunities to trim the extended and unnecessary scenes, which could have significantly improved the overall viewing experience. Production values are average.
Verdict:
On the whole, Neethone Nenu is a tedious drama despite okay performances from the lead actors. The outdated concept, lack of freshness in the story, and over-dramatic scenes make it a forgettable movie. It’s advisable to explore alternative options for your weekend entertainment.
