Telugu romantic comedy web series, Miss Perfect, starring actress Lavanya Tripathi and Abijeet Duddala, is now streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. Read our review to find out more about the 8-episode series.
Story:
After a heartbreak, OCD freak and management consultant Lavanya Rao (Lavanya Tripathi) moves from Delhi to Shanti Nilayam apartment in Hyderabad. During the COVID-19 chaos, her maid Jyoti (Abhignya Vuthaluru) requests her to inform Rohit Varma (Abijeet Duddala), a software engineer in the same apartment, about work absence. Rohit mistakes her for the maid. Later, Lavanya turns up as maid Laxmi. Both develop feelings for each other. What happens next? Why didn’t Lavanya reveal her identity? Did Rohit realize who she is? You have to watch the series on the small screen to find out.
Plus Points:
After a serious debut in Puli Meka, Lavanya Tripathi brings a fun twist to her character in this romantic comedy series, portraying someone with a strong penchant for cleanliness. Her portrayal is both decent and entertaining, showcasing her acting prowess effectively.
Abijeet Duddala, in the pivotal role of Rohit, significantly enhances the plot with a commendable performance. His charisma adds an appealing touch to his character.
Abhignya, portraying a vivacious maid, effortlessly injects humour into Miss Perfect, making it an enjoyable watch. Mahesh Vitta and Harshavardhan, along with the supporting cast, deliver satisfactory performances.
Minus Points:
Despite its potential, Miss Perfect lacks the necessary situational comedy crucial for connecting with the audience in a romantic comedy. The series missed a valuable opportunity to infuse more comedic elements, an oversight by writers Francis Thomas and Shruti Ramachandran and director Vishvak Khanderao.
While the initial episodes set the stage effectively, the subsequent proceedings lack the desired impact. The narrative fails to explore the full potential of drama and comedy between the lead characters, leaving a sense of unfulfilled potential.
The sub-track involving Harshavardhan and Jhansi acts as a hindrance to the plot, and the climax episodes could have been more compelling to elevate the series from being decent to exceptional.
Jyothi’s character, portrayed by Abhignya, lacks emotional depth in her family situations. Additionally, the director could have maximized the use of Mahesh Vitta and Harsh Roshan to generate more impactful comedic elements.
Technical Aspects:
Vishvak Khanderao has done a satisfactory job as a director. However, writers Francis Thomas and Shruti Ramachandran’s greater emphasis on situational comedy and drama could have significantly improved the rom-com series. Nevertheless, their commitment to creating a wholesome, family-friendly rom-com deserves recognition.
Prashant R Vihari’s music and Aditya Javvadi’s camera work contribute effectively to the series. While the editing is acceptable, fine-tuning in the mid-episodes could enhance the overall viewing experience. The commendable production quality is a testament to the dedicated team behind the scenes.
Verdict:
On the whole, Miss Perfect, an 8-episode rom-com series, is not so ‘perfect’ but offers its fair share of entertaining moments. Lavanya Tripathi, Abijeet, and Abhignya deliver decent performances. However, the absence of situational comedy, occasional slow pacing, and an unnecessary sub-track pose challenges. If you’re seeking a family-friendly series and can overlook these aspects, Miss Perfect is a suitable choice for a weekend watch – keep your expectations in check.
