Vidya Vasula Aham, starring young actors Rahul Vijay and Shivani Rajasekhar, was released today directly on the OTT platform Aha. Here’s our review to help you decide if this web film is worth your time or not.

Story:

Set in Vizag, the film follows Vidya (Shivani Rajasekhar), a confident woman with high standards for her partner. She insists her parents find a groom who can pass her tests. Vasu (Rahul Vijay), a Mechanical Engineer, meets her criteria, and they marry happily. However, as time passes, their egos start to affect their relationship. The unfolding events and how they learn the importance of a healthy relationship form the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Rahul Vijay displays energy in his performance and has decent comedic timing. Shivani Rajasekhar effortlessly matches him, delivering a satisfactory performance with a touch of glamour.

The young pair fits their roles perfectly, and some well-crafted scenes enhance the movie’s appeal. Additionally, the music occasionally takes center stage, adding to the overall experience.

Minus Points:

After reading the storyline above and watching the trailer online, it’s evident that the plot becomes predictable. Given its straightforward narrative, the director missed a golden opportunity to elevate the movie by infusing compelling dialogue for the lead actors and their interactions.

While Rahul Vijay’s performance is generally satisfactory, there are instances where he is hyperactive and appears artificial. Unfortunately, the supporting cast receives limited screen time, underutilising their performances.

Although the lead characters explore the central theme of ego, the director fails to effectively harness this theme to create engaging drama and humour. A more focused approach to generating such scenes could have yielded a different outcome.

Despite its concise runtime, the movie feels lengthy due to a sluggish screenplay and poorly written dialogues. A tighter screenplay and comedic elements could have significantly enhanced the film’s appeal.

Technical Aspects:

Director Manikanth Gelli chooses a favorable script and a talented lead pair but misses the opportunity to bring out the best in them through a more captivating screenplay.

Kalyani Malik’s music is adequate but could have been more memorable. Akhil Valluri’s cinematography and production values are satisfactory, but some scenes could have been edited by Satya Giduturi for better pacing.

Verdict:

On the whole, Vidya Vasula Aham is a disappointing fare, despite the decent performances from the lead actors. The lackluster story and poor execution diminish its appeal. Unnecessary scenes, a weak screenplay, and forced dialogues further hamper the movie’s prospects. It is strongly recommended to explore alternative entertainment options.
