Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh and Shreyas Talpade have teamed up with Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Zarine Khan and Shazahn Padamsee in this hilarious comedy entertainer ‘Housefull 2’. The movie has been directed by Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala is the producer. The movie has released across the world today so let us see how it stacks up.

Story :

Chintu Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor) and Daboo Kapoor (Ranadhir Kapoor) are two very wealthy step-brothers who hate each other. This hatred is shared by their family members as well, including daughters Heena (Asin) and Bobby (Jacqueline Fernandez). The brothers vie to outdo each other in every aspect of life and it is the same when it comes to finding suitable grooms for their daughters.

Marriage cosultant Pasta (Chunky Pandey) arranges a meeting between the families of Jai (Shreyas Talpade) and Heena. But Chintu Kapoor insults the family and Jai’s father ends up in a hospital. In order to exact revenge, he turns to his friend Jolly (Riteish Deshmukh) who is the son of UK’s richest man J.D. (Mithun Chakraborthy).

A series of comical errors later, the friends enlist the help of ace conmen Max (John Abraham ) and Sunny (Akshay Kumar) to dupe Chintu and Daboo. Into this scenario comes in Batook Patel (Boman Irani), who is a childhood friend of J.D. Batook is hell bent on getting his daughter (Shazahn Padamsee) married to Jolly. It is now a mad drama of 4 guys and 4 girls who are in love with people they are not supposed to love. It is revealed that J.D. also has a secret and quite shocking past. What happens in the end? That forms the story.

Plus Points :

Akshay Kumar is hilarious and simply outstanding as Sunny. His gags, expressions and sheer comedy timing elevate the movie considerably. It is a treat to watch Akshay when he is in his elements. John Abraham is decent as Max and he supports Akshay well. Rishi Kapoor and Ranadhir Kapoor are outstanding as the step brothers who fight with each other. Riteish Deshmukh and Shreyas Talpade are ok but they do not have much to do.

Mithun Chakraborthy steals the show with a solid performance as J.D., and he really comes into his elements in the brief flashback sequence. Boman Irani is ok. Johny Lever is hilarious towards the end.

Among the heroines, Asin turns in a terrific performance. She looks gorgeous and she has upped the glamour quotient considerably. She shows once again what a good prospect she is, and hopefully, will be able to make inroads into Bollywood. Jacqueline Fernandez and Shazahn Padamsee are ok. Chunky Pandey is largely good, but goes overboard sometimes.

The film has some superb comedy and there is hardly a boring moment in the film. Dialogues are entertaining and they work big time. Malaika Arora’s item song ‘Anarkali Disco’ is good.

Minus Points :

The story is extremely predictable and there are too many loopholes in the plot. While most of the comedy scenes work, a few fizzle out and fail to excite. Some of the scenes are way too loud for multiplex crowds. Some of the scenes in the movie are very similar to Telugu films like Ready, Dhee and Kandireega. Background music in key emotional scenes is straight out of Mahesh Babu’s ‘Athadu’.

Zarine Khan’s performance is bad and she does not have good screen presence either. There is too much melodrama in the second half and some of it could have been toned down. The romantic track between the lead pairs was not established with conviction.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is good and editing is neat. The dialogues are quite outstanding and we could see the crowds enjoying themselves thoroughly. Sajid Wajid’s music is ok.

Sajid Khan succeeds in maintaining the tempo of the film right till the end and he has delivered a completely entertaining package. Screenplay is good.

Verdict:

Housefull 2 is a hilarious entertainer that delivers a very enjoyable experience for the viewer.Akshay Kumar delivers a superb performance and he is ably supported by seniors like Mithun Chakraborthy and Rishi Kapoor. The movie does not aim to be intelligent and there is absolutely nothing in it for the serious movie goer. Just stop looking for logic in the proceedings and go with the flow. You will be thoroughly entertained.
