Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, with the iconic movie franchise Mission : Impossible. This fourth installment in the series is called ‘Ghost Protocol’ and the movie has released in India ahead of many countries in the world. Our very own Anil Kapoor has starred in the film. Ghost Protocol has been directed by Brad Bird and Tom Cruise has co-produced this flick. Let us see how it is.

Story :

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise ) is broken out of a high security Russian Prison by his former employers, the super secret IMF, as things go horribly wrong for them. The Russian nuclear launch codes are out in the open and Ethan Hunt must do all that he can to stop them from reaching the wrong hands.

As a game of cat and mouse unfolds, Ethan Hunt and the IMF are implicated in the bombing of The Kremlin and the team is officially disbanded and disavowed by the US Government after invoking the Ghost Protocol. The team must now turn rogue and embark on an unsanctioned and unauthorized operation to save the world from a certain Nuclear War.

Highlights :

Tom Cruise breathes life into the role of Ethan Hunt. He is outstanding in the action sequences and it looks like he thoroughly enjoyed himself while filming for this movie. “Ghost Protocol’ has some kickass stunts and riveting action sequences.

The Burj Khalifa episode in the movie is outstanding and there were whistles and claps in the theater for the stunts on the tower. It has been quite a long time since I felt so nervous during a movie’s action sequence. The camera work makes sure that you feel the tension.

Tom Cruise has been ably supported by Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner. The spy gadgets in the movie are super cool and the sequence in the Kremlin, where they confuse a security guard by creating an optical illusion, is fantastic. Director Brad Bird has done a fabulous job with this movie.

Drawbacks :

Anil Kapoor literally makes a fool of himself. There is nothing worthwhile about his character, except for a chance to rub the incredibly attractive Paula Patton’s backside. There are a few dull moments in the film in between the high voltage action sequence.

The movie is a tad long at 2hrs 15 minutes and there was no interval (atleast in Prasads Imax), so you need to plan and equip yourself for it.

Background music, surprisingly, does not live upto the standards of the franchise. It is good during a few instances, but it could have been a lot better.

Verdict :

The ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise has an iconic image and you will probably watch a movie in this series even if you know its bad. But what if its good? If its really very good?. You will have a whale of a time and that is what happens when you walk into a theater screening Mission : Impossible – Ghost Protocol. It is a thoroughly entertaining flick with some top notch stunts and riveting action sequences. Catch this flick on the biggest screen that you can find near you. You will not be disappointed. Thumbs up for Tom Cruise.
