Director Ravibabu has carved a niche for himself as a director of sensible urbane movies that are very stylish and sophisticated. He is now back with a romantic drama ‘Nuvvila’ that has newcomers in the lead roles. Let us see how the movie fares.

Story : Nuvvila is the story of three young friends who fall in love under very different circumstances. There are three seperate love tracks in the movie. Anand (Ajay) , Phidel Raju ( Prasad ) and Mahesh (Havish) are thick friends who work together in a Pizza center. Anand is a highly confused guy who takes a year off to make up his mind about whether he wants to pursue Engineering or Medicine. He falls in love with his neighbour Archana (Yami). In a twist to the tale, Archana is head over heels in love with a famous cricketer Vishnu and gets into trouble because of that.

Phidel Raju’s aim is to become a famous musician and his handicap is that he cannot pronounce the sound ‘Sa’ . He has a love hate relationship with his childhood friend Rani (Remya). They slowly discover that they love each other more than they hate each other.

Mahesh is hell bent on becoming a model and he has a very carefree nature. He is forever running after interesting girls. He has an interesting relationship with Madhavi (Sarayu) and there is another sidetrack involving a gay admirer Shailu (Haleem).

All three friends experience ups and downs in the relationships and whether they end up achieving their dreams forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points : There is some terrific comedy in the movie. The first half especially has superb scenes involving all the main characters and the movie proceeds at a very lively pace. Among the male leads, the top marks go to Prasad and Havish. Both of them have superb comedy timing that is impressive for new comers. The scenes where Prasad tries to impress the famous music directors of Telugu Cinema are hilarious because of his inability to pronounce ‘Sa’.

There is a very humorous track between Havish and Haleem that has gay overtones. The comedy never goes overboard though and it is extremely tasteful. All three female leads score in this movie. Yami is just fantastic in the role of Archana and she is a girl to watch out for in future. Remya and Sarayu look good and turn in effective performances.

Ravibabu keeps making brief appearances throughout the movie as a Cop and he is extremely effective in bringing about a lot of laughs. His comedy timing is very good and it would be great if he makes more appearances in movies. Radha Kumari as the Bamma and Master Atulith are good in their brief roles.

Songs have been nicely integrated into the movie and they never break the flow of the narrative.

Minus Points : The second half moves along at a slightly sluggish pace in the middle and it has some excessively melodramatic and cliched moments. Some of the concepts shown in the movie like gay marriage, and the father son relationships are a little radical for our society.

Ajay could have put in a more spirited performance as his histrionics lack energy. He is completely overshadowed by Prasad and Havish.

Technical Departments : The movie does not look and feel like a low budget film at all. Ravi Babu excelled in getting the comedy quotient right. Screenplay is mostly good except for a few moments in the second half. Cinematography is good. Music by Shekhar Chandra is top notch and goes well with the theme of the movie. Editing is decent. The opening titles are nice and innovative. Dialogues by Ravibabu are witty and sharp.

Analysis : Nuvvila is a very enjoyable urban comedy that will appeal tremendously to young professionals and students. The fine comedy and decent performances will draw in the crowds. There is hardly a boring moment in the movie. Ravibabu’s brilliance makes you forget that the movie has a lot of newcomers. Go with your gang of friends and watch this movie. You will come out happy.
