Rathinirvedam, starring the sizzling Shweta Menon and Sreejith Vijay, has hit the screens in Andhra Pradesh today. The movie is a remake of the Malayalam cult classic with the same name. Let us see how the movie stacks up.

Story :

Rathinirvedam is the story of Bujji (Sreejith Vijay) , a bright young adolescent lad and his infatuation for Rathi (Shwetha Menon). Rathi and Bujji are neighbours and childhood friends. Their respective families are quite close as well. Because of this, Rathi is very close to Bujji and moves along with him without any inhibitions.

This is mistaken by Bujji as mutual attraction and his feelings turn to lust. He is rebuked by Rathi when he conveys his feelings to her, and she tries her best to avoid him. Friction develops between the families. But Bujji does not relent and he continues to pursue her. Does Rathi succumb to Bujji’s advances? What consequences does it lead to?

Plus Points :

Can’t think of any except Shwetha Menon. She is a very talented actress who does not mind shedding her clothes when required. She oozes sensuality in some frames and the camera keeps panning over her hot body throughout the film.

Minus Points :

The movie is extremely boring and the patience of the audience is highly tested. The characters are not etched properly. Forget about the poor narration. The movie’s posters and Shwetha Menon’s costumes might suggest a steamy cinematic experience, but sadly, even that is not to be.

The movie feels like a cheap B grade Mallu flick and is nowhere close to the original 1978 cult classic starring Jayabharathi. The story and many of the scenes will not be accepted by most people in our society, atleast openly.

Sreejith Vijay can’t hold a candle to Shwetha Menon’s performance. He has neither the conviction nor the innocence to carry off the role well. The climax is highly cliched and just fizzles out.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is decent and Shwetha Menon’s bold and sizzling attire is exploited to the maximum. Music is just about average and none of the songs really strike a chord. Dialogues are poor and are not riveting enough. Editing is ok.

Verdict :

Movies of this sort need either engaging drama or really steamy scenes to work. Sadly,Rathinirvedam has neither and does not have anything to offer to the audience. If you want to go gaga over Shwetha Menon, its better off to buy a DVD and enjoy in the comfort of your home.
