Monal Gajjar

Comedy King Allari Naresh’s ‘Sudigaadu’ will be hitting the screens tomorrow with big expectations.

Monal Gajjar is the heroine while Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao is the director. We have just been to a special premiere of the movie so let us see how the film is.

Story :

Kamesh (Allari Naresh) and his wife (Hema) become the proud parents of a dynamic and powerful new baby who is born with a six pack body. Just when the baby is born, Thikkal Reddy (Jayaprakash Reddy) comes in as the villain and he becomes a sworn enemy of the baby. To save the baby from Thikkal Reddy, Kamesh gets his mother (Kovai Sarala) to escape to Hyderabad. The baby grows up into Shiva (Allari Naresh), a powerful and dynamic young guy with seemingly invincible powers like a Telugu Cinema hero.

Shiva can make bullets stop, challenge time and even make Posani Krishna Murali speak intelligently. On a side note, Shiva meets Priya (Monal Gajjar) over the course of time and falls in love with her. Thikkal Reddy’s gang members keep hunting for Shiva and he decides to fight back. He also faces resistance from the mysterious Don D.

How he fights them all and with what powers forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points :

Allari Naresh is outstanding in the role of Shiva. He uses his comedy timing to great effect and he keeps the fun factor in the film going right till the end. This is one of his best performances to date. Monal Gajjar is ok.

Jayaprakash Reddy, Shayaji Shinde, Krishna Bhagawan and M.S.Narayana do a good job and they manage to make the viewers laugh. Brahmanandam is good as Jaffa Reddy. Hema and Kovai Sarala are alright. Srinivas Reddy entertains in a role that is a satire on the Siddha character from Khaleja. Fish Venkat and Raghu Babu entertain briefly.

The strength of the film lies in brilliantly conceived spoofs on all the biggest hits of the industry. The spoofs have been done in a good natured way without malice and they will be enjoyed by everyone. Two spoofs stand out for their brilliance – One on TV Anchor Omkar and the other on the custom of Thigh Slapping (thoda kottadam). The spoof on Omkar in particular had crowds rolling in their seats with laughter. Posani Krishna Murali adds great fun to that sequence.

The film moves with good pace most of the time and nice comedy keeps the viewers entertained. Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao succeeded in integrating the comedy cleverly into the narrative.

Minus Points :

Climax is a letdown for the movie. Humour quotient and entertainment factor dip considerably in the one scene that should have been a highlight. The court episode should have been better conceived. Also, the final twist in the film did not pan out the way it was intended. Until the climax, I was having great fun but the poor ending spoiled the experience a little for me.

Songs are another minus point. Except for the opening song, none of them are really entertaining. They serve as speedbreakers. Romantic track between Naresh and Monal Gajjar could have been better.

The second half, especially towards the end, suffers from a slight dip in pace. Kondavalasa and L.B.Sriram look out of place in their characters.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is decent. Dialogues are brilliant and deserve special mention. They have been written in a very entertaining fashion. Sri Vasanth’s music is just about passable. Editing is decent but it could have been sharper in the second half.

Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao succeeds in making the film entertaining right till the very end. He should have taken more care with respect to the climax. Production values are good.

Verdict :

Sudigaadu is a good clean entertainer that will make you laugh out loud. The spoofs are brilliant and like I said, the one on Omkar is not to be missed. Allari Naresh proves yet again that he is indeed the Comedy King. A badly executed climax spoils an otherwise solidly entertaining film. Still, Sudigaadu is one very enjoyable spoof on TFI and it makes for a good watch this weekend. Don’t miss it.
