Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s romantic sci-fi entertainer Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. The film is now available for streaming on Prime Video on a rental basis. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Aryan Agnihotri (Shahid Kapoor) is a robotics engineer working in his aunt Urmila’s (Dimple Kapadia) company. His family wants him to marry a girl and settle down in life, but Aryan keeps postponing his marriage plans. On his aunt’s invitation, Aryan goes to the USA to work on an important project. Urmila receives an important call and heads to another city to handle an emergency task. Urmila asks her manager, Sifra (Kriti Sanon), to take care of Aryan in her absence. Both Aryan and Sifra get close to each other, and the former falls for the latter completely. But Aryan learns that Sifra isn’t a human but a humanoid robot. What did Aryan do next? Did he forget Sifra? Whom did he marry? This forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has a simple storyline, but what works well with the movie is its fun quotient. The makers are very much aware they don’t have a great plot on hand. Hence, they sprinkled the film with gags and situational comedy. Shahid Kapoor’s efforts to make his family believe that Kriti Sanon is a human will tickle our funny bones.

There are a good number of rib-tickling moments in the movie, which are handled neatly. The pre-climax episode where the humanoid robot malfunctions is sure to leave one in splits. Kriti Sanon’s performance in this sequence is superb. Dimple Kapadia is neat in her role. The very idea of the film is fascinating and is different from other movies that were made on artificial intelligence.

Shahid Kapoor did a phenomenal job in the film. After learning that Kriti is a robot, the manner in which the actor depicts his emotions and frustration is awesome. Shahid Kapoor’s comedy timing is pretty good, and his emotional act in the finale is impactful. Lately, Shahid appeared in more serious roles, and this film showcases his fun side.

National Award-winning actress Kriti Sanon is terrific as Sifra. It is surely not an easy role to portray, but Kriti Sanon pulled it off with ease and perfection. She looked drop-dead gorgeous and shared a crackling chemistry with Shahid Kapoor. The lead pair’s hot chemistry is one of the biggest assets of this flick. The songs are pleasant, and the visuals look easy on the eye.

Minus Points:

One aspect of the movie that requires a lot of improvement is its emotional quotient. There are a couple of decent emotional moments, but they get overshadowed by the fun angle. Hence, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya doesn’t become a wholesome entertainer as the completeness is missing. One would enjoy the light-hearted comedy, but there isn’t much to take away once the movie is completed.

The movie becomes occasionally slow, and the editing team could have cut short the length of a couple of family sequences as they don’t add much value. Dharmendra’s character lacks much importance, and it is underdeveloped. The senior actor’s performance and character in his previous flick (Rocky Aur Rani) had a great impact, but this rom-com disappoints in this aspect.

Technical Aspects:

Rom-coms like these need good songs, and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya gets this right. The title track, Akhiyaan Gulaab, and Laal Peeli Akhiyaan are lovely to listen to and watch. Laxman Utekar’s visuals are eye-candy, and the movie looks rich with solid production values. The editing is just okay.

Directors Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah did a decent job. They managed to inject entertaining moments at regular intervals, but the writing department could have done a better job with regard to emotional moments and drama.

Verdict:

On the whole, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is a time-pass entertainer with a good number of fun moments. The makers’ intent is evident, which is to provide entertainment consistently, and they succeed in this aspect. Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon are lovely in their roles, and their chemistry is awesome. However, the emotional depth is missing, which restricts the film from reaching the next level. Also, at times, the movie becomes slow. If you love watching rom-coms, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya ends up being a decent watch.
