Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan has now come up with the third part of the Tiger series, which has a phenomenal craze among the audience. Katrina Kaif returns as Zoya, and the film is directed by Maneesh Sharma of Band Baaja Baaraat fame. Amidst solid buzz, the film hit the screens today. Did Tiger 3 live up to the expectations? Did it match the quality of Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, and other films in the YRF Spy Universe? Let’s find out.

Story:

A RAW agent informs Avinash Singh Rathore, a.k.a Tiger (Salman Khan) that former ISI agent Aatish Rehman (Emraan Hashmi) is up to something. But Aatish Rehman is two steps ahead of Tiger, and he comes up with a solid plan to stop Tiger. What did Tiger do then? What is it that Aatish Rehman is trying to achieve? How did Zoya (Katrina Kaif) assist Tiger in this mission? This is what the film is about.

Plus Points:

The movie begins on an interesting note. The first few minutes were exciting, with a good twist. The second half offers a few decent moments for the audience. A few characters from the Tiger franchise appear in the second hour, and they are nicely utilised in the action scenes.

Salman Khan is good in the action sequences and he performs the action blocks with utmost conviction. His entry scene is neatly designed. The biggest asset of the film is the combo scenes between Salman Khan and King Khan Shah Rukh. It was a treat watching these two biggest stars together in a frame. Shah Rukh Khan’s entry scene is too good, and it lifts the spirits. Shah Rukh’s funny antics provide entertainment for a while and the entire action sequence was brilliantly shot.

Katrina Kaif packs a punch as Zoya, and she doesn’t disappoint a bit. She performs the stunts in a stunning manner, and her screen presence was terrific. Simran is alright in an important role. The post-credits scene is whistle worthy.

Minus Points:

After an interesting start the narrative loses steam. Most of the first half is bland, with dull scenes. Tiger 3’s plot might not sit well with the Indian audience. There is absolutely no emotional touch, making it tough to root for the characters. The other films in the YRF Spy Universe also didn’t have a great plot, but what worked with them was the entertainment factor. Unfortunately, Tiger 3 doesn’t have much entertaining stuff.

The high moments are low in number, and that is something one wouldn’t expect from Tiger franchise. The storytelling is flat for the most part. One more key drawback is that the villain’s role is poorly written. Emraan Hashmi is undoubtedly a good artist, but his role is cliched. It is getting a bit monotonous, and it would be better if makers can come up with different ideas.

Earlier, there were complaints about the VFX part in Pathaan. Tiger 3 also suffers from the same issue. The below-par visual effects limit the overall experience. Though the fight scenes are composed well, the jarring visuals restrict the impact. Tiger 3 also doesn’t have catchy songs or solid background score to take the film to the next level.

Technical Aspects:

Pritam songs are not great, and the background score provided by Tanuj Tiku is not impressive. A big-scale film, Tiger 3, needed better soundtracks. The cinematography by Anay Om is good. The editing is neat. The makers could have done a better job as far as visual effects are concerned.

Coming to the director, Maneesh Sharma, he couldn’t do complete justice, as the film works only in bits and pieces. The story provided by Aditya Chopra doesn’t have enough meat, and the screenplay by Shridhar Raghavan is no better. A few pleasing moments in the second half, along with the cameos, make Tiger 3 an okayish flick.

Verdict:

On the whole, Tiger 3 didn’t live up to the hype completely, as it manages to entertain only in parts. Salman Khan is good in an action avatar, and the film turns captivating during Salman and Shah Rukh Khan’s scenes. After a below-par first half, the second hour offers respite with some decent moments. The movie will benefit from the holiday period, but the real test begins once the working days commence. If you are a fan of the Tiger franchise, it is advised to have your expectations in check.
