After three years in the making, ‘South Queen’ Trisha Krishnan’s highly anticipated debut web series, Brinda, has finally premiered today on the OTT platform Sony LIV. Dive into our review to see if this long-awaited series lives up to the hype and delivers on its promises.

Story:

Brinda (Trisha Krishnan), a sharp Superintendent of Police in Hyderabad, grows suspicious when a death is almost ruled a suicide. Trusting her instincts, she investigates further and uncovers it to be a murder, leading herself to a web of shocking killings. As Brinda delves deeper, she unearths startling truths about the elusive killer and his motives. Who is behind these murders? What fuels his deadly spree? And why is Brinda so profoundly invested in this case? All these questions are answered in the series.

Plus Points:

For her debut web series, actress Trisha Krishnan made an excellent choice with a crime investigation thriller. She embodies the role of a dedicated cop flawlessly, delving into the mystery of unexplained deaths with determination. Her performance is exceptional, portraying a wide range of emotions effectively.

Ravindra Vijay also delivers a decent performance as Sarathi, a dedicated cop who supports Trisha’s character throughout the investigation. Anand Sami’s performance stands out as particularly impressive. His portrayal is compelling, with his expressions adding depth to the series.

Rakendu Mouli has a substantial role and excels in it. Indrajit, as Anand Kabir, and Jaya Prakash, as Trisha’s father, also deliver noteworthy performances that enhance the series’ compelling narrative. The remaining cast members also contribute effectively in their respective roles.

The series kicks off on a high note, immediately drawing viewers in. The first four episodes are expertly crafted, maintaining the audience’s interest. The screenplay, the build-up of suspense, and the cliffhangers at the end of each episode are well-executed, making it hard to stop watching. The background score is yet another highlight, enhancing the overall experience.

Minus Points:

Despite being well-made, the series’ violent content may not be suitable for all audiences, particularly families.

The screenplay is strong in most episodes, but some scenes are too slow-paced and could have been more concise. The extended focus on the killer’s backstory appears overly long and could benefit from trimming. Once the villain was revealed, the director should have made the story progress faster for a better experience, thus avoiding any sense of dragging.

The killer’s motive is clearly explained, and the plot is well-woven, but the emotional impact in a few scenes, mainly in the final episode, could have been stronger. The series would have been more effective if limited to six episodes instead of eight, as the additional length makes some episodes appear drawn out.

Technical Aspects:

The technical elements of the series are impressive. The cinematography, the music, and the production values are top-tier, reflecting the dedication of the team behind the scenes. However, the editing could be improved, with some scenes needing to be trimmed for better pacing.

Director Surya Manoj Vangala excels at creating a thrilling experience that keeps audiences engaged throughout. The screenplay by Padmavathi Malladi is impressive and effectively complements the director’s storytelling.

Verdict:

On the whole, Brinda is a meticulously crafted web series that stands out among the recent releases. As an engaging crime thriller, the show keeps its viewers on the edge of their seats with a suspenseful narrative. The series boasts strong performances from Trisha, Anand Sami, Indrajit, and Ravindra Vijay and is expertly directed by Surya Manoj Vangala. However, some scenes may not be suitable for family viewing, and the extended runtime and occasional slow-paced moments could be drawbacks for those who prefer shorter thrillers. For a well-constructed crime drama, Brinda is an excellent choice. Grab your popcorn, get comfortable, and immerse yourself in this captivating series.
